ENIGMA

One lonely morning.....

He woke up and stared at the ceiling with nothing there to see wondering the turn his life has taken. Pulling himself up, he sat down and wondered is this all worth it?? As always ignoring his question, he got up and prepared for another tiring day of what was worthless to him. The dates on the calendar keeps on changing but his fate is at a standstill. The person he used to be is no more inside of him, this world has changed and he had to change in order to maintain some perspective in this brutal society. All the happiness, ideals and aspirations are in there somewhere rusting like an old iron in a junkyard. He deals with his daily trauma of coping with another day as the sun sets to the horizon sinking his heart to the disappointment he got from loving someone rather than himself. Tired of all this and to get rid of his loneliness he joins some friends for an outing, encountering yet another situation where people are trying too hard to make others realize how terrific their life is and living a lie at the same time. He returns home packs his stuff and waits outside for his taxi, he saw an old man who seems a bit devious at the midnight stroke of the hour. The old man smokes his beedi and watches everyone in their heyday. He went and sat beside the old man and started the nimble conversation. He asked the old man, "what are you doing so late, don't you have to sleep??" The old man replied, "I have nowhere to sleep". He offered old man some money but it was refused. Perplexed he look at the old man and rebuked at him, "you don't have money, nowhere to sleep and perhaps you may be hungry. Why are you refusing my money??". The old man replied, "I don't need money to sleep, I can sleep anywhere since I lost my money to my children, what I am awake for is to see this calmness and everybody trying to figure out what they would never be able to do because we kill our own dreams the very next moment we weave them so as to get a place in a society, which is too complex in itself." The old man took out his blanket and slept leaving the person more abashed, until he realized that he is the person holding himself back in order to belong to somewhere and in the process changed who he actually was. He saw some glimpses of his old self, that night, trying to figure out what a homeless person said whom he used to ignore every time during the day when he was busy doing what he never liked.
